Ceram.X

Simple and natural, for all indications

Ceram.X Mono Based on the latest nano ceramic technology with nano fillers (average size: 10 nm) and nano particles (average size: 2.3 nm), Ceram∙X® is a universal composite with a unique, simplified shading system and long working time, meaning natural aesthetics are easy to achieve for every patient and all indications.

For the development of Ceram∙X, DENTSPLY grouped the 16 shades in the VITA shade guide based on similarities in lightness and chroma enabling fewer shades to be offered which cover all patient needs whilst still referring clearly to the established Vita® system.

    Ceram.X Shading System

Ceram∙X is available in two distinct shading systems:

    • Ceram∙X mono+, the single translucency system, comprises just seven shades of intermediate translucency comparable to conventional composites (e.g. Spectrum® TPH) for fast and easy restorations of posterior or anterior teeth.

It is ideal as a capping composite on SDR®.

    Mono Compules
    • Ceram∙X duo+, the dual translucency system, combines just four dentine shades (and dentine bleach) and three enamel shades, which mimic natural tooth anatomy. The full VITA shade range is covered and advanced aesthetic restorations are easily achievable.

    How to determine the Ceram.X shade for Ceram.X mono+ and Ceram.X duo+

An innovative polymerisable, non-leachable photo inhibitor system in Ceram∙X provides longer working time to place and contour the material even under high ambient light, without compromising mechanical properties.

     Nano-ceramic

Nano Technology was first introduced by DENTSPLY

in the bonding system Prime & Bond NT (Nano technology)

and is now used in Ceram∙X .

A significant portion of conventional monomer has been replaced by nanofillers (average size: 10 nm) and nanoparticles (average size: 2.3 nm).  Half of the resin is attached/connected to the nanoparticles (when cured) so there are less free monomers which results in less monomer leakage.

The Ceram∙X nanoparticles are highly dispersed among the resin matrix due to an innovative manufacturing process.

A study by The University of Freiburg, Germany showed that Ceram∙X released a very small amount of monomers compared with the other materials investigated.

    Cap SDR with Ceram.X

The performance of SDR-based Ceram∙X posterior composite restorations was compared to non-based composite restorations in a 12 month clinical trial by Professor Van Dijken and Professor U. Pallesen[i].  196 restorations were evaluated:

    • None of the teeth restored with Ceram∙X showed signs of caries.
    • No significant difference was seen between the restoration quality of the two techniques (SDR-based and conventional non-based), although SDR provides a simpler and shorter placement technique.
    • Both SDR-based and non-based posterior Ceram∙X restorations performed well with a survival rate close to 100%.

Modern technology allows us to offer patients a variety of dental restorative materials from which to choose. Recent advancements, such as the nano-ceramic restorative used in our practice, mimic the natural aesthetics and anatomy of the tooth. However, traditional restorative materials remain the preferable alternative in some situations.
